Carrie Menk

Carrie Menk MSW, LICSW

I focus on building a strong foundational relationship with clients, collaboratively developing self-awareness, mood-stabilizing skills and communication tools that allow for the safe reprocessing of difficult experiences and emotions. I work with people who have experienced a range of challenges, from difficulties with life adjustments to complicated trauma and loss.

It is important to me that clients understand that difficult and traumatic experiences can arise from a seemingly “normal” childhood or life event. Therapeutic support and guidance for any destabilizing event or emotion is a valuable resource. Creating compassion for oneself and building up internal resilience are important to the healing journey.

With 24 years of clinical practice, I draw from specialized training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, EMDR and Yoga Calm to work with a client’s concern from a holistic perspective. I provide short-term therapy with clients on a targeted issue, as well as long-term therapy with clients seeking deeper healing around long-standing, complicated or traumatic life events. I work with populations and groups including adults, older adolescents, college students, the LGBTQA community and people in the midst of life transitions.

Prior to founding Centered Practice, I was an individual, group and family therapist in both a community mental health clinic and for a rural county agency. I also worked for several years as an adjunct faculty member in the graduate social work program at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. In 2004 my husband and I moved to rural Rice County from the Twin Cities. Our two children and various pets keep life very interesting.
